The Springfield Watergarden Society offers a FREE invitation to members of Friends of the Garden and Master Gardeners to join with them in a summer tour of two of their country water gardens east of Springfield. On Saturday, July 14, Anita Peterman and Peter Longley will be opening their gardens and water features to us. Both gardens are down 60 East from Springfield. The Peterman’s garden is located near Fordland, and Alpha Meadows, Peter Longley’s garden, is closer to Seymour.
The Petermans will open their garden to us from 5:00 pm to 6:15 pm and there will be a prize drawing for all who come announced at 6:15 pm and sponsored by the Springfield Watergarden Society. Then, the party will move on to Alpha Meadows to see Peter’s spectacular terrace and water features and where refreshments courtesy of Dick and Dorothy Brunskill will be served. If interested in seeing these gardens please RSVP to Pat Ware springfieldwatergardensociety@gmail.com or telephone Pat at 417 343 3878.
To reach the Petermans coming from Springfield, go east on 60 through Rogersville to U Highway and go about two miles to Olga Road. Turn left (at sign of West Finley Baptist Church). Stay on Olga Road (gravel road, pass graveyard and church, go down steep hill, cross wet water creek slab bridge, drive through dense trees along road until you see the Finley River). The Petersons red gate is on the left just before the river. Address: 1975 Olga Road, Fordland. There will be room for about 12/13 cars to park at the house. If there is no more room to park, you will have to park in the pasture you pass on the way up to the house.
To get to Peter Longley’s where he will be expecting us about 6:45 pm, return to 60 East and continue east until just before Diggins you turn right on NN. Take NN down and up a hill and some turns until you see Finley Falls Road on the left at a sharp curve in NN to the right. Take Finley Falls Road that will soon turn into a gravel road until you meet Burnet Road on your right. Take Burnet Road through very shallow ford and up a winding hill until Sarvis Point Road comes in on your right. Take Sarvis Point Road about 2 miles and Partners Drive will come in on your left. Go to end of Partners Drive and Alpha Meadows house and gardens will be on the right. There is plenty of field space in which to park.
