A Real Difference Maker
By Mark Hay
At Sammy’s Window, we get a lot of chances to change lives. Sometimes, we get ours changed by those we serve. One such case is a little girl named Rosey and her foster mom.
Rosey came to us, just a shell of a child. The first time I met her, she was so small and frail. Her body was almost rigid. She had a very hollow look in her eyes. She knew only one word, and that was the word “NO”. She wanted me to pick her up and carry her around. When I did, she stared into my eyes and studied me intently. We went in search of the perfect stuffed animal. Each one I showed her, she quickly said “No”. I would hug them and say “Yes”. Finally I saw a small grin at one and with a little prompting, she said “yes”‘ a new second word to her vocabulary.
I see Rosey now every couple of months. She has definetly bloomed in to a flower. Very happy, very chatty, an air of confidence. That doesn’t just happen. It comes about by a loving foster mom who puts in the hours needed to change a life. Both these gals have had a huge impact on me.
Now the mom has a new opportunity. She has been asked to shape a sibling group from another state. She needs our help. She is in need of a bunkbed, a twin and full mattress and 2 dressers. She will change these kids lives. Question is, will you step up and help her or others?
Thanks, Mark
