Ozark Daylily Society Display & Sale Results Sunday June 24th
Information provided by Beverly Long
Thanks to all who helped with our Second Annual Daylily Display & Sale last Sunday.
We had over 150 beautiful day lilies on display in the lobby of the Botanical Center. Gary Jones, Gail Wright, Cindy Arrowood, Frieda Alexander, Cliff Garland, and Walt and Bev Long displayed flowers.
48 people were kind enough to take time to vote on their favorite daylily in the display. There were 75 different day lilies mentioned on the ballots which allowed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place votes. 31 flowers received more than one vote and 32 received at least one first place vote.
The final results for the display favorites:
1st Southwestern Memories – Salter 2005 grown in Cliff Garland’s garden
2nd Heavenly Dragon Fire – Gossard 2004 grown in Cliff Garland’s garden
3rd Thelma Douglas – Douglas 2008 grown in Frieda Alexander’s garden
4th There was a three way tie for 4th place:
Ruby Spider Stamile 1991 grown in Walt and Bev Long’s garden
Jaws of Life Gossaard 2003 grown in Gail Wright’s garden
Holiday Party Kropf 1996 grown in Walt and Bev Long’s garden
In addition to the display, we also sold clumps of no name day lilies dug from the gardens at the park. We sold over 25 clumps plus some potted plants. Thanks to Cliff (and his son) and Walt for digging day lilies for folks.
If you haven’t seen the Daylily Garden in Close Memorial Park during the couple of weeks you should visit this week. The garden looks fabulous, maybe the best it’s looked in years!
We have a long way to go to clear the final four beds at the garden for replanting, but we’ve made a great start this summer.
We have one more event – our sale in conjunction with the Butterfly Festival on Saturday July 21. We will be sending you more details in the near future.
Future Meetings and Programs: To see a complete listing of the year’s activities go to our website: www.ozarkdaylily.org
We are always looking for suggestions for future programs. If you would like to present a program or have an idea for a program please share your ideas.
