The February issue of Springfield Conservation Nature Center’s HARBINGER newsletter is on-line now at: http://mdc.mo.gov/regions/southwest/springfield-conservation-nature-center/harbinger-newsletter/resource/harbinger-jan
The March/April newsletter issue you usually receive will feature a new title—Nature Connections—and a new format. This new and improved newsletter will feature the Springfield Conservation Nature Center, Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery and Conservation Center in Branson, the Andy Dalton Shooting Range and Outdoor Education Center near Bois D’ Arc, the Joplin Office in the Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center in Joplin, as well as other Missouri Department of Conservation programs including landowner events and teacher workshops in southwest Missouri. (See the View From the Bridge article for more information about this new format.) The mailing lists have already been combined from all the separate newsletter mailing lists, so all of you are receiving this final notice about the Harbinger newsletter. The newsletter will be a one-stop opportunity to learn about conservation activities in southwest Missouri. As an e-mail subscriber, you don’t need to do anything. You will automatically begin receiving Nature Connections effective with the March issue.

February is around the corner, and it’s time to look at the Harbinger for a final time so you’re ready to register for programs on February 1. We are celebrating the 24th annual Family Month with Friday evening programs designed to lure you and your family out of your “den” and out to the nature center during the coldest (usually) and shortest month of the year. The month kicks off with John Hernandez and his repertoire of Native American nature stories on Friday, February 3, and ends on Friday, February 24, with the return of National Turkey Calling Champion Ralph Duren. During the other Friday nights, you can prowl for owls and attend the Big-Mouthed Frog Puppet Show. There are many other great events this month from Geocaching For Beginners to Dutch Oven Cooking, so be sure to check them all out.
