Winter Garden Project, Phase II, Under Construction
Note from www.ozarksgardens.com: Three remarkable people set to work quickly on the Winter Garden expansion in the photo below: from left, Dr. Bill Roston, who has designed and installed a great many of the botanical gardens in Nathanael Greene/Close Park; Bob Childress, who as garden chairman of Friends of the Garden builds and maintains many of the gardens; and Dan Bigbee, grower, plantseller, and owner of Fassnight Creek Farm in Springfield, Missouri. Bill is installing in the Winter Garden a water feature of his own design and Dan generously volunteered his time, energy, and front loader to clear space and spread the dirt. Here are more details on the Winter Garden http://www.ozarksgardens.com/news/0/0/xrSce/a-winter-garden.html.
Note from George: We appreciate Dan’s assistance last Friday getting the dirt moved before it really got cold and the ground froze. I’m sure winter’s not over in the Ozarks! Gail Wright, volunteer and garden designer, ordered some shrubs and trees yesterday to start planting more of the Winter Garden in the spring since the beds in phase II are starting to shape up.
Both Bob and Bill are two of the four original lifetime Friends of the Garden members we call the “Four Hoemen”. They are in on almost every project and have been since day one. The other two are Stan Horsch and of course Major Close. Major is in Florida for two months and Stan took Friday off!
