Note from George: It was recently brought to my attention that, “the last issue of the Harbinger will be the Jan/Feb issue. After 23+ years the newsletter will now be a Regional newsletter listing events at the nature center, Shepherd of the Hills, Andy Dalton Range, Wildcat Glades in Joplin, and other regional events.”
What a shock! I had to observe two moments of silence and shed a tear learning of the pending death of a favorite newsletter, the local Harbinger. It may pass away but it won’t be forgotten. Just think of all of the 23 years of back issues that many loyal readers have stored on a shelf or in a drawer some place. Saving them for future reference and review. Many of the Springfield area children (young and old) have grown up reading their copies. Linda, thank you and the staff of the Springfield Conservation Nature Center for the excellent read.
If you have a chance you might send Linda and her team a note of thanks for the wonderful community newsletter that has been coming our way for almost a quarter of a century, her contact information is at the bottom. Thanks, George
Note from Linda Chorice: December is here along with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. We invite you to take time to relax and enjoy the season by taking a stroll on the trail and by attending relaxing programs. Lots of visitors would like to walk the trails in the evening, but the nature center area and trails close at 6pm. However, you can walk the trails at night during the Evening Stroll on Friday, December 2, from 6 to 9pm. Trails will be open and patrolled, but bring a flashlight and a walking buddy because you’re on your own. Inside the building, enjoy a crackling fire, sip hot chocolate, and browse through the gift shop.
Enjoy the spectacular photography of Tim Ernst during his return engagement on Thursday, December 8, for two program times—5pm or 7pm. See the Events page for details about these and other programs.
Please note that the nature center building, area, and trails will close at 1pm on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day. The area and trails will reopen at 8am on Monday, December 26, and the building will reopen at 8am on Tuesday, December 27. Be sure to visit the building between December 27 and 30 to enjoy programs and activities to keep you, your family, and your guests entertained this holiday season.
