An important message from George:
There is not much time to get this done. If you support the Springfield-Greene County park system you need to take a few minutes and send a very important email to your three elected Greene County Commissioners and ask them to place the parks sales tax issue on the August ballot at their meeting Monday morning May 16th so the voters can decide for themselves which direction the park system should go. As a matter of fact, feel free to attend this important meeting in person to lend your support. Come to the old historic courthouse, 940 Boonville, room 212, starting at 9:30 am sharp.
We could get into a long discussion about the pros and cons. What has been done in the past has produced a top rated parks department both state and nationwide. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it! If we want to continue to move forward this request would add a small net 1/8th of one percent to the current county wide sales tax. In short it will cost everyone spending money in the county, including those traveling to and through the county, an additional 1/8th of 1%. The advantage is our ability to continue to grow the services we can provide to all of the parks users while having everyone spending funds in Greene County be part of the process.
Prime examples of a successful August ballot proposal is restrooms near the Hosta Garden in Close Memorial Park, continued expansion of necessary personnel to assist with the day to day operations of the Botanical Center & Complex, more funding of needed park infrastructure, etc. Not only at 2400 S. Scenic but throughout the Greene County park system.
Any questions about the details you would like to discuss please fell free to call me. If I don’t have the answer I will get it. The IMPORTANT thing is if you like where we have been and where we are going please write the Commissioners and ask YOUR contacts to do the same. Please don’t assume this will move forward without your help. Time is of the essence! Thanks as always, George
