The Dr. Bill Roston Butterfly House Use your parks, enjoy your parks, support your parks! We are blessed with having one of the finest public parks systems in the country. The Springfield-Greene County Parks Department in partnership with taxpayers, thousands of volunteers, and a dedicated staff has delivered an assortment of educational and recreational facilities unmatched in most other communities.
Because of this strength Greene County is becoming a magnet drawing people from throughout the region, the state and beyond to experience the offerings of our diverse facilities. These facilities include the Botanical Gardens & Complex with the new Botanical Center in Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, it is now surrounded by 26 gardens with the addition last month of the Azalea Garden. It was funded by a generous private donation from Ruth Arneson with the plant material, including 200 Azaleas donated by Dow and Linda Whiting, owners of Garden Adventures Nursery, Nixa.
In addition to the Botanical Gardens & Complex at 2400 S. Scenic there are over 100 other public park properties throughout the Greene County area. Please take a few days this year to enjoy the diverse opportunities you have and visit some of these tremendous assets. For a list of City-County Parks and other public facilities visit www.parkboard.org, pick up a current copy of The Park Bench (or download below), a list of recreational programs and activities, or call 417-864-1049.
